Japan was insanity! Really great people, super clean, and super surf stoked would be the way to describe this amazingly weird land in Asia. We had a couple of film premieres in Shonan, and Osaka. People drove hours to catch a glimpse of their favorite surfer Alex Knost, he signed Tshirts, made posters, took pictures, talked surfboards, and even signed somebodies car. It was Knost mania! Whereever we went crowds of people flocked to take a picture with Knosty, and whenever we surfed everybody was psyched to watch the wonder boy in person. I shot lots of film on the trip working on my next projects. Spent a day in Tokyo as well, just to see the city and record the sounds it was neat.
After promotional duties we went on a small surf trip for a couple Japanese mags to the southern part of the country in Miyazaki. We were only there for 3 days and didnt exactly score good surf, but spirits were high as we groveled in some little surf and Alex made it look fun, as only he can. We stayed at a camp site type setup right along the beautiful tropical coastline, each of us had our own little box type cabanas. Each night we would BBQ and drink the night away to some fireworks. This part of the country is just that, country. Reminded me of old school Hawaii, very moderate temperatures & few people.
Wanted to thank our guides on the trip and all whom helped out like SeaKong, RVCA Japan, On The Board – Glide – and Surfing Life Magazines. It was a memorable first experience for me in Japan and positive I will return very soon! Here is some crappy digital pics I took. As usual, i took it out the digital camera on the last day pretty much when i ran outta film to have a little summary for the blog, and grabbed a few shots from the film parties and signings. 35mm and super8 Film pics are soon to come.
